- if i knew what the hell you meant by static ip, and how to do it, i would. as for these ports, i see no such ports on my router, just a place to plug in cables and some blinky lights
the more blinky it is, the more faster it is LOL
to configure ports, you use internet exploder to connect to the router itself
the configuration screens look just like a web page
static ip
all computers (and ps3) connected to your router has a specific address
for example 192.168.1.3, your pc may be 192.168.1.4 and your ps3 could have 192.168.1.5
an ip address is just like the address to your house, each house has a specific address, like 123 Main Street
by default your router assigns addresses to each computer/ps3 that is connected to it
but for security reasons, it will change the address every few hours, days, or weeks.
think of it this way, a robber knows your address in which to steal your TV, but what if your address changes daily? then he wont know which is your house. security.
Which is why you don't really add a permeant address to your pc for security reasons
but on the ps3, it does not matter cause there is no reason to be concerned about security
a permanent address is known as STATIC, an address that changes periodically is called DYNAMIC
also, by default since your router automatically gives out addresses,
but you can configure the router to give addresses in a specific range
for example, only number houses using a random number starting from 10 to 100
what about numbers 1 to 10? well since we sort of told the router to only use 10 to 100 randomly on pc,
that leaves us 10 numbers to choose from to permanently assign to the ps3
on my setup, i use an airport extreme base station
it has wireless built in and also ports so i can plug my ps3 directly into it so i dont have to use wireless
i don't like wireless for the ps3, i love it for a laptop, but for a ps3, we need every bit of speed we can get
my ps3 has a static address of 192.168.1.17, and i configured my ps3 network setup to use that
and my router has those pesky ports open to only send data to and from my ps3 machine only at 192.168.1.17
i'd like to help you guys figure it out, but honestly with the many types of router brands, its hard to troubleshoot every single one
but the fundamentals are basic and universal
steps to do, you can look up your routers manual and it will tell you how to do these steps
i recommend doing it if you want full open access to game servers
but you don't have to if it works for you, but i did and you guys ask me to host for a reason
1 - configure router to use DHCP addressing starting with 192.168.1.10 and ending 192.168.1.100
2 - write down the ip address of your router, subnet number, router number and DNS1 and DNS2
3 - open ports (see earlier post for port numbers) and point them towards 192.168.1.3
4 - configure the ps3's network configuration to manual input numbers
5 - enter in 192.168.1.3 for the ip, followed by the subnet, router and DNS1 and DNS2 you wrote down
6 - test connection and it should test successfully
why did i use 192.168.1.3? because its easy to remember the ps3 is on 3
when new games come out, there will be new ports to open
just add more ports and point it to the ps3
i'm tired now lol
